7 Principles of Magick

7 Principles of Magick

To understand Magick better, here are 7 principles that apply to any form of Magick

The power of the mind is the beginning of Magick.
We’ve already seen this principle. The ability to use spiritual power to create positive changes in your life comes ultimately out of the mind.

Magic is strengthened by the words we use.
Witches call them “words of power”, while mainstream society calls them affirmations. No matter what word you use to describe it, whenever you put your desires into a positive statement, you can use that statement to put your mind’s power to work to make your dream come true

We amplify our Magick through the energy we devote to it.
Affirmations, visualizations, spells, rituals, prayers, and chanting are examples of action that pagans take to inject their own energy into their Magickal work. Putting energy into a Magickal intention is like feeding it---it nourishes it and makes it grow stronger, thereby bringing us closer to our goal

Our feelings, good or bad, impact our Magick.
Because Magick begins in the mind, it is affected by your mental state, including whatever you may be feeling. Times of emotional extremes---such as extreme anger, fear, or depression---are not the best time to do magick because such powerful feelings can distract the focus and intention of you magickal work. More experienced magicians can use emotional energy to creative and powerful ends, but as a beginner, its generally better to take the time to be grounded and centered before focusing on your magick. Your feelings don’t have to be perfectly calm, but as a rule, the more grounded you are. The better.

Ultimately, magick involves the power to make positive changes.
The universe is constantly changing, and the energy of magick is no more or less than the energy of this constant flow of change. Magick involves focusing our desires and intentions to shape the flow of energy to positive ends.

What makes magick “Magick” is the spiritual component.
Using your mind to inspire you to make changes in your life is good common sense. What makes it “magick” is the spiritual dimension: calling on the God and Goddess and your spirit guides to bless and guide your magickal work. Thanks to the spiritual component, it is more than just “positive thinking”. It is actually a partnership between you and the spirit realm to make good things happen.

Real magick creates real results.
It might be a nice gesture to work magick for world peace or a cure for cancer, but such huge goals tend to dissipate the energy of magic, and so we can’t really see the results of our efforts. It’s better to focus your magic on a specific goal that you have , such as losing those extra few pounds you gained over the winter or seeing local air quality improve. Focus your energy, perform a ritual or spell, and then support it with real-world action (such as going on a diet or supporting local carpooling efforts). That’s the best prescription for magick.
